is it loyalty, obs5nacy, lunacy? Ater 56 years does it really mager? Recently someone suggested this was my fun
car. To which I replied it is more of a challenge than fun. Every year it is something else: a leaking fuel tank, a
dripping rear engine oil seal, a drive shat needs replacing. Park brake cable breaks. Mystery igni5on problems:
there is a fool proof fix: go to electronic igni5on. Use your original distributor and replace some parts and presto
no more problems. Un5l it quits and needs replacing. I’m currently rebuilding a distributor out of a 1940
Plymouth with original replacement parts in the event that the fool proof electronic igni5on fools me again and
the original equipment will prove superior (?).
Oh yes, my fuel gauge doesn’t work (sending unit?). I’ll have to check it out. It also has a tendency to blow out
coolant. I fixed that by adding a container that collects the blown out liquid and I can use a turkey baster to
extract it and return it to the radiator. Works like a charm.

1966 Pon3ac Parisienne Custom Sport Conver3ble
Originally we had purchased a 1966 Pon5ac
conver5ble in 2017 which I was going to restore but
once I started doing a bit of work on it I realized what
I was in for. I just wasn't prepared to spend that much
5me or money on a car that I didn't know much
about. Besides, we really wanted a car that we could
go cruising in now, not wait a couple years.
I ended up selling it and in 2019 I came across
another Pon5ac that was fully restored and ready for
cruising. In browsing through Facebook marketplace I
spoged this blue conver5ble, exactly what I was
looking for. I contacted the seller in Okotoks, made a
deal and the car was ours.
The car we ended up with came with some op5ons that weren't standard on this model. They included the big
block 396 ci motor, power windows, 5lt steering, power antenna, power brakes, seat belts and head rests etc.
The first owner, who was from Saskatchewan, had the car un5l 1981 before he sold it to the guy I bought it
from. Ater driving it for a few years it started to show its age so in 2004 he started a full body on restora5on
which took a number of years. He was very proud of this car and it showed in the care and agen5on he gave it.
In fact the car took second place in his division in both the World of Wheels and Powerama in 2010
As fate would have it, the 5me he could spend with this car slowly came to an end. Health issues and loss of
storage lead to the decision to sell the car. It was quite an emo5onal 5me for them but realized it was 5me to
pass it on and I assured him that it would be well taken care of.
We have thoroughly enjoyed cruising with our conver5ble since 2019 and never regreged buying it.

Editor’s Message
We have had a fun-filled summer, with car events, many family events, and some ‘relaxing?’ 5me working in our
yard. Where do those weeds keep coming from? Last night Judy debated about going out to deadhead a few
more things at 8:50 ish because it was quite dark. I guess autumn is on its way.
We are thankful to all those who do so much work to provide us with wonderful ac5vi5es. And thanks to all who
support them by coming out. Some of our summer ac5vi5es are reported in this Clunker, but there are many
more to come. Be sure to remember the Annual Corn Roast at Sturms on Sept 6. It is always a fabulous event.
